Look Alikes

Paying a fraction of the price for accessories that really remind you of far more costlier versions, is always a good idea.  I keep coming back to this ring above, as it must've been inspired by a fashion blogger's favorite, seen here.  And, this claw bracelet is so cutting edge chic, it really calls to mind a much pricier style, seen here. I have to admit, with some pieces, sometimes I'll splurge and completely go for it...but other times, I just can't seem to justify spending top dollar for trendier items, especially given my own fickle fashion nature.  For some more "look-alike" ideas, please check out my post over at Where The Style Things Are.

Last Night A D.J. Saved My Life

If only these walls could sing, surely they would be singing the praises of Athena Calderone, and her D.J. husband, Victor Calderone.  I first spotted this amazing beach house in Elle Decor, where I learned how this couple rescued and brilliantly revived it after years of mold, mildew and neglect.  Athena, along with her talented design firm, Rawlins Calderone and architectural firm, Bates Masi, transformed this house into the hip and happy retreat that it is today. I'm positively dying over those rope ceilings not to mention the whole cool surfer vibe they've got going on.

Picks,Pins + Pines

Here are my picks, pins and pines for the week!  This sweet little fortune cookie caught my eye, and now I'm thinking about all the cute little ways to gift it.  I finally ordered some normal "business" size business cards (my current ones are large squares), so naturally I'm on the look out for a super chic holder, this one will do quite nicely.  Suddenly, mid-century "lava" ceramics seem so hip and cool to me...This "first lady" throw pillow made quite an impression, over at Jonathan Adler's Greenwich shop.  My ever growing "collection" of lip glosses and balms just expanded, obsessed with both the product and the packaging on Christian Dior's Lip Glow. The Little Dictionary Of Fashion, has been showing up everywhere, from Walmart to Bergdorf's, seriously, when does that ever happen?  Finally, I've owned this incredible scent for a while, but only recently put it back into rotation...after receiving several compliments, its now my new/old summer favorite!.

Le Closet Heaven

I recently started reading the fashion blog, Le Catch.  It's written by Marlien Rentmeester, the West Coast Editor of Lucky Magazine.  Le Catch makes for highly addictive reading as it's loaded with all sorts of insider-y fashion tips and trends.  Even better,  Marlien recently allowed another fab blog, ClosetVisit to do just that.  My voyeuristic, closet curious self couldn't get enough!

The Angels Wanna Wear...

 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5
Lately, I'm feeling quite contradictory.  I don't really love the color red, and I try not to even think about shopping for fall fashions until about mid August...but today I'm coveting a pair of red flats for fall!  Maybe it's the uber chic selection of fabulous red shoes out there right now, or maybe it's that I  know these would work so well with everything in my closet.  Or, maybe it's just because I'm listening to some vintage Elvis Costello today...

You know, the angels wanna wear my red shoes. But when they told me 'bout their side of the bargain, that's when I knew that I could not refuse. And I won't get any older, now the angels wanna wear my red shoes.

Wednesday Wants

My iPhone contract is up in August and I can't wait to upgrade to the newest version.  I already know I'll be switching over to a white one and now it's just a question of which cute case to purchase for it.  There seems to be a million different options to choose from out there, but I think I've narrowed it down to these two.  The prices are pretty decent, maybe I'll get them both...

P.S. Do you say sprinkles or jimmies?

Captivated By The Sea

Recently flipping through the July/August 2012 issue of Country Living, and this image above literally stopped me in my tracks.  I immediately tore it from the magazine, something I rarely do anymore, in this pinterest, tumblr, bookmarking age.  This "tear sheet"~ now sitting a top piles of paperwork on my desk, is reminding me of the "outdoor shower project" my husband and I keep talking about and yet keep putting off. The warm weather months all flit by in the blink of an eye, and we always seem to miss the right window of time for this... In a weird way, it's almost like a metaphor, too.  It's a reminder to take full advantage of summer before it's gone. Use our pool more. Get out to visit some beaches.  I went back to glance at this photo again, and, upon turning it over, realized that this entire Nantucket cottage is completely captivating.  You can view the rest of this home's vintage nautical charm, here.

A Big Dose Of Pretty

Many years ago, when I practiced law in New York City, I would get the Sunday night blues so bad.  Especially in the summer, when I just never wanted those long sunny weekends to end.  Nowadays, I work from home doing something that I really love...so Sunday evenings don't really bring me down as much.  However, Mondays are still Mondays...anyway you slice it.  There really isn't much you can do about it.  Here's hoping this big dose of pretty, straight from the design portfolio of Spazzio Rosso, makes it a bit more bearable...

Introducing MP Designs

I'm thrilled to introduce this amazing jewelry! Right now, zhush.com has the online exclusive to mp designs, a brand new line started by my friend Michele and her friend Pam.  Before moving to the burbs to raise her family, Michele was a stylist in New York City and at one time even had her own line of children's clothes at Barney's New York. This lady knows style and around here, is known for her great style.  These shots were taken at a recent trunk show hosted by Calypso in Westport, but you can now check out mp designs over at zhush.com.
Also worth mentioning are some fab sites that gave zhush.com some amazing shout outs this week!
Great big thanks to these top notch blogs and sites!

The Pursuit Of Style

And, finally...also worth mentioning, is the guest post I did for Lauren over at her blog. It's one of those fun "what's in your bag?" posts, and it took me hours to clean up my act before I could take just one photo.  If you can relate, swing by to see the super organized contents that I now tote around!

Picks, Pins + Pines

Hey, I've started a new series! Every Friday I'll be sharing what I've been picking, pinning and pining for all week...

1. I've always loved vintage travel posters and this one really caught my eye.  2. Since my personal fashion style leans more towards classics, I like to think pieces like this help me look a tad bit edgier. 3. This shagreen box is a stunner, 'nuf said.  4. Camouflage, I'm such fan of this dynamic print which is really due for a major fashion moment again and these flats are calling my name.  5. Ever since my white toy watch went ca put a few weeks ago, I've been eyeing this one.  6.Last week found me wandering into Space NK, when I walked out I smelled heavenly!  7. Finally, this vintage dress sign kills me, I'm trying to work up the nerve to buy it, ship it and hang it in our white walled living room in Florida. Thoughts?

Book Review: The Joy Of Decorating

Last month, I was the happy recipient of Phoebe Howard's latest tome: The Joy of Decorating: Southern Style With Mrs. Howard.  This book is right up my ally as I'm such a fan of Phoebe and Jim Howard's work.  I've mentioned before that two of our closest friends are building their dream home with the Howards, I can't wait to see the results (which should be some time soon, maybe late fall).  Phoebe Howard has a gift for creating rooms with classic southern style that all look completely fresh and livable.  I found so much inspiration between the pages of this fabulous book!
