Meeting and connecting with fellow bloggers is always the best.  The first night at the Kips Bay Showhouse, I got to chat with several ladies that I was hoping to connect with, but sadly not everyone.  Day two started bright and early at Hearst Tower.  Listening to top tier magazine editors give engaging presentations along with some of the most dynamic personalities in the design world was an incredible treat. I plan to blog about some of these talents soon. That morning there was also a short film about the event's sponsor,<a href="http://kravet.com/" target="_blank"> Kravet</a>.  The film illustrated the company's origins. An immigrant "American dream" story that personally, as a first generation American, really touched me. <a href="http://kravet.com/" target="_blank">Kravet</a>, a family based company with it's vast amount of product lines simply amazes me. Next we were off to the Elle Decor Concept House, and then impossibly in the same day, the Decoration and Design building<span style="font-size: x-small;"><i> (the D+D)</i></span>.  There was a delicious spread for lunch and then we were treated to a truly entertaining and talented guest speaker: Alexa Hampton <span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>(seated on the left in the image below along with Traditional Home's EIC, Ann Main)</i></span>. Alexa, my new designer crush, is basically the coolest. She should have her own talk show.  Shortly after, with the luxury of not living too far from the city, I took off and joined everyone again the following day at the Museum of the City of New York, where <a href="http://www.glassybaby.com/" target="_blank">Glassybaby's</a> founder, Lee Rhodes, gave a touching presentation about the company's products and mission. Lee, officially became my entrepreneur crush. I simply can not get enough...this isn't the first time I've posted  designer custom closets and it certainly will not be the last.  I love them.  Seeing all of these perfectly put together closets inspires me to get more organized this spring and reminds me to "shop my own closet" just like <a href="http://clos-ette.com/" target="_blank">Melanie Fascitelli, of luxury closet company Clo-sette</a>, (where all of these images are from) recommends. Maybe one day I'll even be lucky enough to be a <a href="http://clos-ette.com/" target="_blank">Clo-sette</a> client, but in the mean time, I'm trying to edit down my own wardrobe into a highly organized and fashionable collection, color coding and all! For me, it's really more of a gut reaction, and even this can change quite often.  However, there are some style constants in my life. I know without a doubt that I prefer white kitchens, regardless of the actual design era it's designed in.  I love the clean, pristine calm that only a white kitchen can deliver.  Of course I can appreciate other types and colors in kitchens when done well...I just know for my life, a white kitchen works best.  And, while it's a pretty broad category, maybe even a stretch...it's one of the few decor aspects that I can confidently claim without feeling fickle or waffling, ever. Is it in design?</b>  I majored in art history in college and realized fairly soon after that I'd rather be doing design than just studying it. So I went back to school for a masters in interior design. But this is my first real foray into launching a product line.  I've done plenty of project-specific custom furniture and lighting design in my day job but never designed a line from scratch. It's been quite the process!  It's definitely my baby (well, next to my son </span><a href="http://www.nesteaglerock.com/2012/03/happy-monday_12.html" style="font-weight: normal;" target="_blank" title="Bryan">Bryan</a><span style="font-weight: normal;">).</span></b><b>What inspired you to start a hardware line?  Did you see a need in this market? </b> <b><span style="font-weight: normal;">After dabbling in </span><a href="http://http//www.etsy.com/listing/67293787/bird-on-wire-duvet-set" style="font-weight: normal;" target="_blank" title="bedding">bedding</a><span style="font-weight: normal;"> I realized that there are so many great soft goods out there, and like fashion it's something that changes from season to season. It would be really hard to design custom soft goods and keep up with the big shots like Dwell Studio and West Elm.  Since I understand the process of designing in metal from my work with lighting and furniture, and since I saw a need for unique hardware, it seemed like a natural direction to take.  My friend who owns a lighting factory was willing to partner with me to produce the first line.</span></b><b>What was the inspiration behind your actual designs for this line?</b>  <b><span style="font-weight: normal;">I'm a big fan of art deco so I took a lot of queues from the angles and lines that were indicative of that time.  I also just thought about what I would love to see in my own home on furniture and cabinets and went from there.  </span></b><b>What style would you characterize this line of hardware?</b>  <b style="font-weight: normal;">Definitely classic and also modern. I think the exposed screwheads on the transparencies line gives them a classic bent that allows them to be paired with more traditional looks as well as modern spaces.  The facets line is also modern but clean and classic as well.
